In just a month we have learnt a lot of new words, some of them very difficult. If you look at the list that follows you will be surprised! When you hear them in class you understand them better because they appear in context. Let’s see if you remember some of them.

Match the words with their definitions and write your answer on the left hand column.

Number1, whisper,  has been done for you.You must do 34 more.  Good luck and take a break if you get tired.

You can copy and paste the grid in a word document and keep it in your notebook. It will be a good way to study for your exam.

1=h 1. whisper a. The act of speaking. A public address. Obama is good at making them.
2. speech b. A person who speaks two languages.
3. phonetics c. The key aspects of a book, text, work, class; the main points without attention to details. You have to do it everyday after lessons.
4. tongue twister d. Brothers and sisters.
5. quorum e. The minimum number of people who must be present for valid voting.
6. bilingual f. When the rubber cover of wheels gets damaged and loses air.
7. bicycle g. The person in a group who is responsible for transmitting the opinion of the group.
8. softball h. A very soft sound that people make when they talk close to your ear. A soft, rustling sound like that of whispering made by water, wind, leaves.
9. cane i. A tube-shaped white thing used for writing on the blackboard.
10. bowler hat j. The most famous character created by Chaplin.
11. tramp k. A means of transportation that does not pollute and does not use gas.
12. moustache l. A sport similar to baseball,very popular in the USA.
13. gurgle m. A sentence which is tricky to pronounce because it contain similar or difficult  sounds.
14. swha n. A circular object that rotates.
15. gutter o. A secret sequence of letters and numbers that identifies a person to prove their right to access, information, etc.
16. password p. Facial hair on top of your upper lip. Chaplin had a toothbrush one.
17. wheel q. A poem in in which the first letter or syllable of each line,  spells out another message.
18. flat tire r. The type of hat Chaplin used to wear.
19. onomatopoeia s. An unstressed neutral vowel The most common sound of English. It is like the “e neutra” in Catalan.
20. chalk t. A word  or a grouping of words that imitates the sound it is describing.
21. spokesperson u. Excrement.The act of defecating.
22. summary v. Gene Kelly did it in the rain.
23. acrostic w. Part of a house that collects the water when it rains.
24. helmet x. A set of lights used in cities to control traffic.
25. tap dance y. A stick which is used to help you walk.
26. sibling z. Actors technique that uses body language and gestures to convey meaning.
27. zebra crossing aa. The study of speech sounds and their transcription.
28. cage bb. The part of a bicycle where you place your hands.
29. handlebar cc. The part of the roads that can only be used by bicycles.
30. love handles dd. The broken sound made by water flowing.
31. poo ee. A tool used by Chaplin in Modern Times to fasten nuts.
32. spanner ff. Fat around the waist.
33. pantomime gg. A metal structure where animals are kept
34. traffic light hh. Something you wear to protect your head in case of falling down.
35. cycle lane ii. A set of white stripes painted on the road that gives preference to pedestrians. Vehicles must let pedestrians cross.

  2. I write the answers on my notebook because is not possible for me to use the left hand column. It was a little dificult but interesting.

    • Have you tried? I’m sure you’ll find the matching for many sentences. I know it takes time, but you must try!
