2010/11. 1.en.1.welcome to your class blog

Dear students.

My name is María Loredo, you already know that, and this year I will be your English teacher and also your tutor. On top of that, I will be with Diana, your Science teacher one hour a week, which means that we are going to spend a lot of time together. I hope we’ll have a great time and that you’ll learn many things and also have fun.

Your language teachers, Emili, Bernat, and myself, will be working together on the same topic, preparing outings and collaborating on creating materials and activities for your group. Virtudes, the German teacher,  and Inés, the French teacher  will also join us in some occasions. After all, we are all language teachers, so it is only natural that we teach you the same things.

The first topic this year that will keep us working for a while is our city, Palma. We shall work on different aspects: signs, buildings, transport, shops, museums and problems that affect city life.  There will also be some outings that will be as important as our class work.

Apart from cities, this first term we shall be working on names. Names are like our presentation card. There’s a lot in a name, and we hope you’ll have fun playing with names a bit.

Finally, it is also important in these first weeks to learn how to present  homework, how to take notes and how to organize the information you get during lessons.  We’ll use some of the posts that we made for the former students of 1ESO E and some examples from their work. Maybe we’ll ask them to come to our class to explain to you how to do it.

This last week I was away working at the university entrance examination, PAU, so you had no English and had to read a book in English and write a summary. This week we’ll check what you did and we shall start with the topic of cities one week from now.

That is all for now, I will not make this post any longer. Welcome again and good luck in this new school year!

3.en.21 End of the year party and summer

Dear Students,

You must be enjoying summer  but maybe some of you have a look at the blog from time to time. I’m still waiting for some photos from the last day outing… Anyway, here you can see some pics. I wish you the best time  during  your vacation and I hope we’ll have a great time together next year!

3.en.20 News from Menorca

Dear students,

As promised, I’ve sent you some pictures from Menorca. Now, two questions for you,  let’s see if you can guess where the photos  were taken . Would you say the pics are from  Maó or from  Ciutadella?  Is the beach in the northern coast of the island or in the southern part?

I’ll give you a hint, for those of you who never visited Menorca, the very beautiful house “Can Saura” appears in the photos. Another hint, the coming celebration of San Joan takes place in this city.

As far as the beach… one of your classmates, the one who sits next to  Lukas in the back row, shares the name with this beautiful, unspoiled beach…

Who will be the first one to post the answers to the blog?

I’ll try to send you more pictures tomorrow.

I will also contribute to the final party next Monday with some delicious Menorcan cheese. You are doing pretty well with the organisation arrangements.

Behave! Maybe next year we’ll be able to organize a trip to Menorca  with the whole class. What do you think?

3.en.19. On line materials for revision. Grammar, readings, listening and pronunciation practice.

Next week we’ll have an exam on some grammar contents. You are familiar with an excellent website, Agenda Web, and you have also used the Ramon Llull school website.

Now, I will recommend to you the exercises from the  first 10 units of Natural English, from Oxford University Press (elementary level)

You can do 3 of the sections: Grammar, Textbuilder and Phrasebank. I shall explain to you in class how to do it, but this post will help you identify the page and find the link, in case you get lost.

1 Grammar

2 Textbuilder

The phrase bank section comes with sound, which will help you improve pronunciation and your listening skills. the Textbuilder will improve your reading skills. You can copy the texts in your notebook. The grammar section you can do it on line.

Homework: start with the grammar, and cover a unit every day.  Those of you who have difficulties in English can do do the other sections as revision work during the summer.

If you try any of the sections and/or exercises of this site, I would appreciate your feedback. Post your comments to the blog.

Don’t tell me you do not know where to go to study! No excuses.

See you tomorrow.

3.en.18. Armin’s lesson

Yesterday, Armin, a second year Batxillerat student, visited our class and was your teacher for a day. He talked to you in English about his experience as a student at the Ramon Llull. He  talked about IT and Moodle, the Virtual Classroom you will be using next year. He also told you how school should be a bully free environment.  We would like to thank him for spending two hours with us and for being patient and putting up with some noise and lack of attention. However, most of you acted really well, payed attention and asked interesting questions.

  1. What  did you learn from his visit?
  2. What did you think of his English? Did you understand him?
  3. Can you remember any of the questions some students asked him?
  4. What about his answers?
  5. Was there anything that surprised you?
  6. Did you learn anything?
  7. Did you find it interesting?

Post your comments to the blog.
